This weeks fix is focused on the pitchfork top 20 of the 2000's. I've pulled 8 songs together from some of my favorite albums on the top 20 list. I tried to limit myself to 1 song per album and tried not to use songs that I've already used in playlists here before.
Stella Was a Diver and She Was Always Down - Interpol.
I'm a fan of this entire album and it would probably end up in my top 10 albums of the 2000s. I love the longing when screaming, "Stella Stellaaah! oh Stellla! Stella I love you, Stella I love you. Stella... I love you
Idioteque - Radiohead I remember dancing to this song at Lolla. Great song live.
Comfy in Nautica - Panda Bear. Panda Bear is part of Animal Collective and you can definitely hear it in this song. Brian Wilson mixed with lots of drugs.
Jesus, Etc. - Wilco. We haven't played Wilco here for awhile. YHFT definitely deserves the top 5 billing.
Dark Center of the Universe - Modest Mouse. I probably own as much modest mouse music as any other band (except Pearl Jam). And the moon and Antarctica is my favorite Modest Mouse album.
Casimir Pulaski Day - Sufijan Stevens. Such a sad, sad, song.
Neighborhood #2 (Laika) - The Arcade Fire. The best part of this song is seeing it live when there is alot of screaming and banging drums on stage.
One More Time - Daft Punk. This song represents everything about my early to mid 20s (and the early 2000's).
Gone - Kanye West (ft consequence and camron)
Yes, hes crazy. And yes, I think college drop out should be rate higher than late registration. But, this, is a good freaking song that doesn't get enough play compared to some of the more poppy hits on the album. A great beat, but also great lyrics:
I'm
a-head of my time
sometimes years out
so the powers that be won't let me get my ideas out
and that make me wanna get my advance out
and just live at my aunts house
