Midweek music fix

Not alot of new, new stuff on this week's midweek music fix. But, music that I've been listening to alot lately...alittle 90s music because my high school reunion is coming up in a couple of weeks. I should note that upon reviewing the list, I realize its probably not one of my more rocking list. We'll try to have more rockers next week.

Randy Described Eternity - Built To Spill. I've been listening to Perfect From Now On on repeat over the past couple of days. Amazing LP. Its noisy and there are such great lyrics. "I'm going to perfect from now on/I'm going to be perfect...starting Now!"

Blanchard - Hope Sandoval & The Warm Inventions. This sounds like a Mazzy Star song from the late nineties...but i think its actually new.

Sometimes Always - The Jesus and Mary Chain. And speaking of Hope Sandoval (who sings on this song with JAMC). I love the disconnectedness (is that word) between the guy and girl in this song.

We Get On - Kate Nash. My sister in law was in town this weekend and she loves Kate Nash. Kate Nash songs are all about the lyrics and her singer/songwriter play on word. This song captures so perfectly that I love him/I hate him in a way that Kate Nash owns. Especially the end of the song - when she goes from getting drunk and locking herself in toilets to watching CSI on Sat night to obsessing and stalking the boy.

The Blackest Purse - WHY? These guys do alittle bit of depressing hip-hop typically, but this is just straight up depressing music.

Immortality - Pearl Jam. This is a live version from Alpine Valley in 2003 (that I attended in the 12th row). While Immortality is certainly one of my favorite songs, this version kills and I think thats mostly due to Mike's guitar playing, I feel his pain. Its just ridiculous. Everything just seems to come together so perfectly in this version. At the end, he mentions playing Alpine before - the infamous (at least in Pearl Jam lore) ice bowl of 2000. I was there, it was freezing. The next night they played an epic show the following night in Chicago (theres always alot of overlap between Alpine and Chicago crowds). There was lot of energy in the crowd in the 2000 Chicago show since the crowd had just made it through a 20 degree outdoor show the night before and there was a sense that Pearl Jam was going to put on a great show that night. There was a similar atmosphere for the 2003 return to alpine, with many of the same audience there for the show. The chicago show is probably my favorite concert experience, this 2003 show is definitely up there.

Velvet Waltz - Built To Spill.
As I mentioned earlier, I have been listening to Perfect From Now On on repeat. This is another great song - complete with droning guitar and lyrics such as "you thought of everything/but one thing you forgot/is your wrong."

Pioneer to the Falls - Interpol. If you do not currently have interpol on your workout mix, I strongly suggest you add them immediately...especially if you're doing any running, biking or eliptical...ing. The sonic combustion of drums, tortured, yet detached singing, guitar, knobs and pedals will easily create a trance while you're doing your favorite cardio activity. Alternatively, this is great song to blast out your speakers while driving up 280 after after work.
