Midweek music fix

I realized I didn't post my midweek music fix for May 28th. I saw Animal Collective and Jenny Lewis that week. I had planned long in advance to go to the AC show and had been looking forward to it. Unfortunately, the show, while very good, did not live up to my extremely high expectations. Jenny Lewis, on the other hand, far exceeded my expectations. The show (at the fillmore) was just so well done - everything from the lighting to her voice to flow of songs was excellent. I had the feeling that I was a jazz lounge in the 30s with a very sultry woman singing, baring her soul about heartache. I went to this show on a whim, with Scott Orn, and it turned out to be the highlight of my week. If Jenny Lewis is coming to your area, please check her out - you will not be disappointed. Here's the list:

Rise Up With Fists - Jenny Lewis. Its like tryin to clean the ocean/what do you think?/ you can drain it?/it was poison and dry/long before you came
One of my favorite of hers. One distinctive nature to Jenny Lewis is that her tone and emotion don't always match the lyrics at that particular point in the song. This song seems to be about the pointlessness of almost everything. While she could have sung this in a depressing tone - she sings it more upbeat fashion.

Tourist Trap - Bright Eyes.
In the spring/when the world is turning green/I only think about the fall/or the frets on the board/my progression of chords/How I want this too resolve

I completely dismissed this album when it came out and somehow this song came up on my ipod and i can't stop playing it. Classic Bright Eyes. So freaking sad.

Silver Lining - Rilo Kiley. And I never felt so wicked/ As when I willed our love to die
This song, sung solo, by Jenny Lewis, only with an acoustic guitar, was probably might highlight of the show. The version in this playlist does not do justice do how emotional and ridiculous this song was live. There was so much emotion when she played. I don't know if that was unusual even for her live shows - the lead guitarist that she played with most of the night said, "If you keep singing like that, you'll sing us out of a job." If anyone has a good live version of this song - please let me know.

Poison - Neva Dinova and Bright Eyes. Oh Princess please make mistakes/Make me feel like I've done right/So I can sleep well tonight
Since we're on a nice depressing song kick, I thought I'd add this ridiculously sad song by Neva Dinova with help from Bright Eyes. While my favorite line is listed above, there are other great lines: you squeeze them ideas out/and i just forgot math And, destory yourself/what the fuck?

Beach House - The Cave Singers. The cave singers seem like the next boviver/fleetfoxes/grizzlybear/blitzen trapper.
