A couple of notes before we get into the music. I am trying to find a better option than the imeem playlist tool. It appears as if it its requiring users to go the site to listen to full songs. Thats not the intention here. While this makes my earlier post on imeem seem abit dumb...I think I need another player. Scott Orn suggested blip.fm, but it doesn't have the song selection that I am looking for. Here is what I think my options are:
imeem
lala
last.fm
blip.fm
streampad (although I am not sure how to use this on blogspot)
If anyone has any suggestions for others to include in the list, let me know. I'll post a complete analysis (note: not as deep as my best songs of 2008 analysis, since I have a job now).
Most importantly, Wilco has started streaming their new cd on their website. Please drop everything you're doing and go there now.
Now, on to this week's list:
The Trapeze Swinger - Iron and Wine. I know its cool to love Iron & Wine, but I don't love them. I like their covers and passing afternoon...and now this song (because I think dowloaded it on stereogum. I don't fully understand the lyrics, but it makes me happy and sad at the same time. The lyrics and flow are all so great, I can't post one set
Nowheres Nigh - Parts and Labor. Another song stolen from the Sink blog, I strongly suggest you read, just for the playlist. Great rock and pop song.
Reasons to Quit - Phosphorescent. This is a Willie Nelson cover and I might like this better than the original. Sometimes old country can take some soul of the song. I get the sense that the singer knows what Willie is saying, "I'm hardly ever sober/My old friends don't come around much anymore/Reasons to Quit/the low is always lower than the high"
Idiot Heart - Sunset Rubdown. I think Sunset Rubdown has the same lead singer as Wolf Parade, another band that I like. I love how this song moves among different speeds, emotions and melody...and when they say, "I hope you die in a decent pair of shoes/you've got a lot more walkin to do."
Good Arms vs Bad Arms - Frightened Rabbit. If I were to do my 33 songs from 2008 list, Frighten Rabbit would be on there. And I had my chance, Matt Bender told me I needed to pay attention to this band and I didn't listen. This album is so good. There is so much freaking emotion, I can't stand it. "Leave the rest/At arms length/don't brush them/they might have diseases."
And, the finale is just killer , "leave the rest/ at arms length/just roll over boy/don't make me do this/leave the rest/ at arms length/I am armed to teeth and I'm heavy set/leave the rest at arms length/I'm not ready to see you this happy"
Here is the list. Apologies if you have to click out, but we'll get this figured out.
