Another company to add to the cool companies list: Zadby. Zadby focuses on connecting independent producers of user generated content to major brands looking to reach the elusive internet content consumers. Why I like Zadby:
1. Monetizing youtube/internet video/user generated video…at least for the content producers. I don’t know if Google cares about content producers making money, but I think it can’t hurt that big brands will pay independent producers. Monetizing user generated content is important if we want it to continue to exist.
2. Keeping it real. Zadby works with producers who have already built cred as creators of cool, interesting, crazy, cutting edge and most importantly, real content. At least on the surface it seems that these guys are just looking for ways to make money off of cool concepts that they already have floating around in their brain. Zadby is not paying big bucks for expensive producers to hire expensive actors to be filmed with expensive film equipment coordinated by expensive big agencies to make it “look” like a viral video…these are viral videos.
3. Power to the people. What excites me the most is disruption of old models and taking power from old, stodgy companies and placing that power in the hands of the content creators.
Clearly this shit is exciting for independent producers. The above 3 points are mostly focused on the users and creators of content. However, I think this is even more important for brands. Big brands know they need to find a new model, but they don’t know how. All their regressions and models are breaking (if not already broken) They know this, they know that no one reads newspapers, hardly anyone is listening to the radio and while consumers watch television they watch it completely differently then they watched it 15-10-5, even 1 year ago. They know they can’t reach consumers the same way, they just don’t know how to reach them. Zadby offers that way…and inexpensively.
