5 songs this week:
1. Dancing Lucinda - the Nadas. I received a disturbing email about 2 hours ago that I graduated 10 years ago. And, earlier in the evening, the nadas's popped up on my ipod. So, I felt like I needed to kick things off with my favorite band from college. So many good times at People's watching the nadas.
2. Wind Phoenix (Proper Name) - Cymbals Eat Guitars. Cymbals Eat Guitars is moving more songs from my "last 2 weeks" playlist to the "my top rated" playlist. Such a good cd. Wind Phoenix has lots of great elements, screaming, noise, soft and quiet distanced heartache.
3. 1901 - Phoenix. I'm abit late to the game on these French dudes. Great song.
4. Strictly Game - The Harlem Shakes. I started reading a great blog this week: The Sink and I hoping a regular feature is the music lists. I got so many great recs of off this week's list. The Harlem Shakes are another Brooklyn Band. And yes they sound indie and distant, but this song has so many great lines, my favorite:
We'll till the land and duck our debts/Underneath soft sun, chewing Nicorette/This will be a better year
5. Corduroy - PEARL JAM. Peal Jam just released they'll be playing in Chicago this summer. Thanks to matt bender, I was able to notify my long time friend and Pearl Jam concert comrad, Mark McCormick to get us fan club tickets. Mark and I have gone to around 15 Pearl Jam shows together. Chicago is always one of the best shows on the tour and I'm psyched to go. Corduroy is by far my favorite song...not just from Pearl Jam. It is my favorite song - ever. The urgency of the music and eddies voice are a perfect compliment to the lyrics: the waiting drove me mad/you're finally here and I'm a mess...and later when he says, "everything has chains/absolutely nothings changed"
Of course as is always the case with eddie, the lyrics are always up for debate - "potato wave" anyone?
