NPR has some great live shows from SXSW they are streaming.
The SXSW wrap up show is good (and features Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson Burified - just remember you heard it hear first) and an amazing version of Wavin Flag by K'Naan.
The Avett Brothers, and K'Naan were notable
Finally the neko case
show was great. Although - Gonzo Gal already blogged about this.
Suckers - Easy Chairs (Demo mix). Yet another Brooklyn Band. Yet another set of hipsters making interesting music. This mix is from their demo, mostly because imeem doesn't allow you to add the album version.
K'Naan - Wavin Flag. I can see how this song could come across as abit cheesy. But come on - this guy grew up in a war-torn country. Definitely inspirational.
Amadou & Mariam - Sabali. This album is getting alot of press. I am not typically a huge fan of world music. But, I gave the album a try. Its not bad and I really like this song. Please give this one time to happen and don't immediately skip over.
The Hold Steady - Girls Like Status (live from a positve rage - at the metro). I felt like this week's playlist need alittle bit of rocking...enter THS. I love discovering new things about music. I just realized that there is a line in this song that references a not super well known song that I love also love. "And Song 3/On John's
John is the lead singer of the Mountain Goats and song #3 is this year. With the chorus, "gonna make it through this year if it kills me." When the hold steady song was released it was his last cd, but he's released a cd since then. Good improv live Craig!
I should also mention that I drove 3 hours there and back to Sac town to see the hold steady. As always, they rocked.
The Mountain Goats - This Year. The Mountain Goats have great lyrics telling great stories. This is from the Sunset Tree, an album pretty much about his life growing up.
Wilco - Ashes of American Flags. Ashes of American Flags came out on DVD. It opens with Wilco performing a sound check of the title track. Wilco is just an amazing band, but the opening is fantastic because its just the band playing for themselves and they just flippin' rock.
