Midweek music fix

A random of collection of songs this week.

Gone for Good - James Mercer. This song, done solo by James Mercer is what appears to be a pretty intimate gathering, is my favorite Shins song. Its brought to us by Thad Rahn, who sent me the disk as part of his holiday (or as he calls it "Love") letter. The entire session is great.

Rise Up With Fists - Jenny Lewis and the Thompson Twins. Certainly not a new song, I've been thinking alot about how things never change, or as Eddie Vedder said, "Everything has chains, absolutely nothing's changed," depending on who you talk to, it could be "Everything has changed, absolutely nothing's changed." Either ways its getting to the same point here.

Cold Desert - Kings of Leon. I am not a huge Kings of Leon fan, but I downloaded the newer album and think there are a few good songs. If you're a fan of the more overtly depressing music, you'll probably like this song. Jesus don't love me/no one ever carried my load/I'm too young to feel this old. Depressing and dramatic.

There are Maybe Ten or Twelve - AC Newman. AC Newman is/was the frontman for the new pornographers and not surprisingly this song is on the hipster blogs and indie stations. I aspire to be a hipster blog, so its here. That being said, it is a good song.

Here's looking at You - The Gaslight Anthem. I don't think this a new album, but someone compared these guys to the Hold Steady. I'm not sure that I think thats totally approrpiate, but there are also some gems on the album. This is one.

Dance Music - The Moutain Goats. I will again miss the Mountain Goats this week. They are in San Francisco and I have prior committments. Ugh, I really want to see them play. So, in absence of seeing them they get a spot on my blog. If you haven't yet, you should checkout the Sunset Tree, its a great album.
