Midweek music fix

I sorta struggled with this week's list. I really pined over putting some of these songs on the list. And, because of that, its pretty random list and it might not flow real great.

Palm Springs - Jill Sobule. I took the prius/its gets good milage
I know that Jill Sobule isn't distinctly cool, but she might be one of the more underrated song writers out there. Everyone knows her from, "I kissed a girl," but she's got alot of great songs out there. She's just released a new album and was on sound opinions - in fact on the sound opinions website, you can hear some of her songs live. Palm Springs embodied alot of her singing, its funny while still very real and the funny is used to emphasize her feelings rather than hide them. The song is about how she's searching for something to make her feel better and goes to the dessert because thats what you're supposed to do. She hopes something is going to happen and it clearly doesn't.

It Gets the Worst at Night - Lucero. So its 4 am/I'm on the road again
I missed Lucero this weekend. Such a good bar band. Great song that captures the sleeplessness and activities that follow heartbreak. Driving and insomina. 2 of my favorite topics. Not a new song, but a great song.

Sattelite Skin - Modest Mouse. Well happy fucking congratulations.
I can't find the album version on imeem, so we'll have to settle for the Dave Letterman version. Love modest mouse and this makes me excited for their new music. Strangley, I never seem to be able to see them live.

World/Inferno vs The End of the Evening - Franz Nicolay. You're always surrounded by lovers/you're never as broke as you seem...I might have fought for the wrong side/it was never this cold in my dreams
Franz Nicolay is the keyboardest for the Hold Steady so it might not too suprising that I am a fan. This dude is abit weird and he has an interesting voice. The tone of the song and the lyrics are right in line with the hold steadys - capturing the source of the party lifestyle. Please give this song a shot (at least 2 listens).

Deja Vu - Eminem. And since im convinced that I'm insomniac/ I need these pills to be able to sleep so i take three naps
Em has a new album. Pfork panned it (a 5.3?), but this song is MM at his best. He goes after alot of people, but just as often hes going after himself. This song is all about his addictions and what its like to have addictions. Again, hang with this song and wait to the end of the song. The whole song is great, but the last verse is really where he opens up.
